About

Sometimes when listening to a new artist, especially one that’s been around for a while, it’s hard to know where to start.  At the beginning?  Sometimes an artist can take an album or two to really get going.  Their most acclaimed album?  Not always the most accessible.  The most recent album?  Sometimes an artist can change so wildly over the course of their career that a new album isn’t the best introduction to their body of work.

This is where Discographication comes in.  I’ll be doing a dive into some of music’s most daunting discographies, charting an artist’s highs, lows, and in-betweens.  It’s always fascinating to watch the way that an artist grows over the course of their career, and there’s no better way to do that with music than to listen to their whole discography.  I’ll be listening to each album and doing a brief write-up touching on their history, how each one relates to their overall artistic growth, and a little bit of how each one affected me personally.

For the purposes of this blog, I’ll be sticking to main studio albums, since factoring in live albums, bootlegs, b-side collections, and non-album singles for some artists is too daunting even for me.  Feel free to follow along on the music-listening platform of your choice, and let me know if there’s anyone you’d like me to cover!
